A simple titanium initial jewellery piece in silver or gold colour is included in the piercing price. For every piercing fitted with a labret—a bar with a flat back and a screw-on end—or a curved barbell, also called a banana, a simple clear stone upgrade is available for €5 extra. The stone is fitted to the end of the labret or the top end of the curved barbell.

How long should I care for it, and when can I change it?The first time shown is the minimum: care for the piercing daily until then and do not change the jewellery. When a range is shown, complete healing can take until the second time. Is the piercing still tender or unsettled? Wait longer.

HELIXClick for more informationHealing & aftercare3–9 months€50

The helix sits in the cartilage along the upper rim of the ear. We choose a firm section with enough room; a strongly folded or very thin rim may be less suitable. We fit a 1.2 mm titanium labret, included in the price. We do not pierce a helix with a ring initially. From a minimum of 3 months, a suitable ring may sometimes be worn if there is no redness, swelling, tenderness or discharge. Healing may take longer. See Aftercare for care advice.

FORWARD HELIXClick for more informationHealing & aftercare3–9 months€55

The forward helix sits at the front of the ear where the rim approaches the head. Not every anatomy has enough room here, so we check the area beforehand. We fit a 1.2 mm titanium bar, included in the price. From a minimum of 3 months, a shorter bar or small ring may sometimes be worn if there is no redness, swelling, tenderness or discharge. Healing may take longer. See Aftercare for care advice.

CONCHClick for more informationHealing & aftercare3–9 months€55

The conch is a cartilage piercing in the bowl of the ear. An inner conch sits deeper and is worn with a stud; an outer conch sits farther out. The best placement depends on the shape and thickness of your ear. We fit a 1.2 mm titanium labret, included in the price. From a minimum of 3 months, an outer conch can sometimes wear a ring if there is no redness, swelling, tenderness or discharge. Healing may take longer. See Aftercare for care advice.

DAITHClick for more informationHealing & aftercare3–9 months€55

The daith passes through the innermost cartilage fold of the ear. Not every anatomy has enough room, so we check this beforehand. Some people associate a daith with migraine relief, but there is no convincing scientific evidence for this and we make no medical guarantee. We use a 1.2 mm titanium horseshoe ring in silver or gold colour, included in the price. See Aftercare for care advice.

The flat sits in the flat cartilage between the helix and rook. The best position depends not only on the front view, but also on the shape and curves at the back of the ear. We choose a placement that looks good and has enough room to heal. We use a 1.2 mm titanium labret in silver or gold colour, included in the price. See Aftercare for care advice.

The rook sits in the cartilage fold between the inner and outer parts of the ear. Its shape and direction determine whether there is enough room; if needed, we may recommend a flat instead. We fit a curved 1.2 mm titanium bar, included in the price. From a minimum of 3 months, a small ring can often be worn if there is no redness, swelling, tenderness or discharge. Healing may take longer. See Aftercare for care advice.

The tragus sits in the small piece of cartilage in front of the ear canal. Not every tragus offers enough room, so we check the anatomy beforehand. We fit a 1.2 mm titanium labret, included in the price. From a minimum of 3 months, a small ring may sometimes be worn if there is no redness, swelling, tenderness or discharge. Healing may take longer; a properly fitted bar often remains the most comfortable option. See Aftercare for care advice.

INDUSTRIALClick for more informationHealing & aftercare3–9 months€60

An industrial connects two ear piercings with one long straight barbell. Your anatomy must allow both channels to sit in one safe line without pressure on the ear. If that is not possible, two separate piercings joined later with a chain may be a suitable alternative. We use 1.2 mm titanium jewellery in silver or gold colour, included in the price. We always check the anatomy first. See Aftercare for care advice.

The nostril piercing is a versatile classic. We choose the placement based on your anatomy and, where possible, take into account whether you would like to wear a ring later. A septum piercing is placed through the thin, flexible tissue at the bottom of the nasal septum. It leaves room for swelling and can be flipped up during healing. See Aftercare for care advice.

Please keep your phone away until we tell you it is safe. Then we are happy to pause briefly for a photo, selfie or video.

  4. 04

    A good start

We use sterile materials, give you aftercare products and keep all instructions available for you online.

Aftercare

We place the piercing. You receive clear aftercare information.

All current aftercare instructions are available on this page, so you always have the correct information to hand. Care differs for a regular skin piercing, an oral piercing and an intimate piercing; the appropriate aftercare products are supplied free of charge. The soap-and-saline method below is Queen Piercing’s established studio method.

There are several good ways to care for a piercing. Every body responds differently, so listen to your body. Below is Queen Piercing’s standard basic method; personal advice may differ.

Always available

Complete aftercare instructions

Swelling, a little bleeding, crusting, bruising, dry skin and a change in shape can be part of normal healing. A change in shape is not always temporary.

Even a piercing that has seemed settled for some time can occasionally bleed a little again. The piercing channel remains fragile while healing and pressure, catching the jewellery, sleeping on it, knocks or other movement can irritate it and cause it to open slightly. A small amount of bleeding does not automatically mean there is a problem or infection. If it continues bleeding, bleeds heavily or gets worse, or other symptoms increase, contact your GP.

When should I contact my GP?Seek prompt medical advice for rapidly worsening redness, swelling or pain, pus, fever or feeling unwell. Also contact a doctor if you are worried about healing, become ill or develop a fever in the first few days, still have itching or redness after two days, or develop new or worsening symptoms after the first day. Queen Piercing can assess irritation and practical piercing problems, but does not diagnose or treat infection.
Aftercare kit and saline solution

For a normal external piercing, your free aftercare kit contains Unicura Balance antibacterial soap and one pot of coarse sea salt. Dissolve the entire pot in 500 ml of freshly boiled water. Stir until everything has dissolved and let the solution cool completely before using it. Keep the solution in the refrigerator and make a fresh batch every week.

Weekly replacement is a simple hygiene measure. Pour only the amount you need into a separate clean container. Never dip a used cotton pad, cloth or cotton bud back into the stored solution. If that happens, discard the solution and make a new batch immediately.

Keep the empty salt pot. The supplied salt is a starter amount for approximately the first week. You will need more after that. Ordinary coarse sea salt without additives from the supermarket is suitable; special or expensive salts are unnecessary. Keep using the empty pot as an easy measure.

General piercings
In short
  • Morning: clean
  • Evening: clean
  • Once a day: soak for 5–10 minutes whenever it suits you
  • Otherwise: touch it as little as possible

Queen Piercing’s studio method: wash your hands first. Clean the piercing twice a day with the Unicura Balance antibacterial soap from your kit. Lather the soap on clean fingers and gently clean both openings and the exposed jewellery without deliberately moving it. Rinse thoroughly with clean lukewarm water and dry carefully. For a dermal anchor, surface bar or similar implant, follow the same rule: clean carefully around the wound and jewellery without moving it.

As part of our studio method, also soak the piercing once a day for approximately 5–10 minutes using a clean paper towel or the non-fluffy side of a make-up pad saturated with the prepared saline solution. Rinsing afterwards with clean lukewarm water is recommended, but not mandatory. Dry carefully and keep the piercing as dry as possible for the rest of the day.

Touch the piercing as little as possible outside cleaning. Do not use ointment, spray, lotion or disinfectant unless a doctor advises it. Avoid cosmetics around the wound and do not cover the piercing with a plaster or bandage except temporarily to protect it during sport. Avoid tight or dirty clothing against the piercing. Do not remove the jewellery yourself if you suspect a complication.

When can I swim again?

During healing, the RIVM advises avoiding swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms. Healing time differs by piercing, so also check the minimum and typical healing time shown for your piercing in the price list. Reaching the minimum time does not mean the internal piercing channel is fully healed. If the piercing is still tender, irritated, swollen, crusty or occasionally bleeding, continue treating it as a healing piercing.

Oral and lip piercings

Brush your teeth twice a day.

Our methodQueen Piercing supplies a salt solution for oral piercings as our standard aftercare method. This simple rinse helps flush away food residue and other loose debris around the piercing.

RIVM and mouthwashIf you want to use mouthwash, the current RIVM aftercare instruction names mouthwash containing chlorhexidine. Always use such a product according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Ask a pharmacist or doctor if you are unsure.

For a piercing entirely inside the mouth, such as a tongue piercing, you receive eight small salt pots and no soap. For the salt solution for mouth rinsing, dissolve one complete pot in 250 ml of freshly boiled water. For a lip or other partly internal and partly external piercing, you receive a few salt pots plus the appropriate products for external care. Make two separate, clearly labelled solutions: the salt solution for mouth rinsing and a mild external salt solution using one pot in 500 ml of freshly boiled water. Let everything cool completely, refrigerate it and keep the solutions strictly separate.

Rinse your mouth 4–6 times a day, especially in the morning and evening.

For a lip piercing only: wash the external part twice a day with the antibacterial soap from your kit. Lather your fingers and wash only the skin side. Gently clean the external opening, exposed jewellery and any crusting with the soap lather without deliberately moving the jewellery. Keep soap out of your mouth and do not pull it through the piercing channel towards the inside. Carefully rinse the outside with lukewarm water. Never use soap inside your mouth. Also soak the outside once a day for 5–10 minutes with the labelled external saline solution.

Avoid kissing and oral sex while healing. For tongue and lip piercings, a shorter bar is assessed and fitted between 3 and 6 weeks, usually around 4 weeks and once swelling has reduced sufficiently. The shorter bar is free of charge. Downsizing does not mean the piercing is fully healed. Do not wear the long initial bar for more than 6 weeks unless we advise otherwise after assessing it.

Intimate piercings

Also follow the instructions for general piercings. During sexual contact, always use an extra-strong condom or a dental dam; ideally avoid sex while the piercing is still healing.

Before cleaning a genital piercing, drinking some water can help rinse away possible soap residue around the urethra after washing.

Be well informedRisks & licence

Make an informed choice. A piercing is a wound and always carries certain health risks. The RIVM provides clear, up-to-date information about the risks of piercing.

Arrive rested and eat and drink normally. Do not get pierced if you have used alcohol or drugs, are pregnant or the skin at the site is irritated.

Health questions belong with your doctor. We do not assess medication, skin conditions, allergies or other medical situations. Do you have a question about this, or are you unsure whether piercing is responsible for you? Discuss it with your doctor before your visit; we do not provide medical evaluations.

Age 16 and over only. We do not pierce anyone under 16, including with permission from a parent or guardian. Always bring your physical, valid ID.

Please come alone if possible. If you would like to bring someone for support, bring no more than one person. Our studio is compact and we cannot accommodate groups of friends or multiple support people. Children cannot come inside either. This helps us keep the studio calm and comfortable for everyone.

Access to the piercing room. We respect your privacy, gender identity, religion and personal preferences. For safety and normal studio operations, however, our authorised staff must always be able to access the piercing room when necessary. We therefore cannot guarantee that only staff of a particular gender will be present or enter the room, regardless of who performs the piercing. If this is an absolute condition for you, unfortunately we cannot perform the piercing.

Photos at the right moment. Keep your phone away until we say it is safe. Then we are happy to pause for a photo, selfie or short video.

Honest advice. We look not only at what is anatomically possible and responsible, but also at what suits you aesthetically. Sometimes we recommend a different placement, angle or piercing because it better suits your anatomy or appearance. We always explain honestly why.

Booking and cancelling. Book online; you can cancel using the link in your booking email. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Everyone is welcome. We are naturally queer-friendly, but above all: whoever you are, this moment is yours. The same safety rules apply to everyone.

You only live once. Get pierced.

Queen Piercing

Queen Piercing

An experienced studio with personal attention.

We work according to current hygiene guidelines and use sterile materials for every piercing. You receive honest advice, even when that means a different placement would be better.

You get an honest answer without a sales pitch—even when that answer is “absolutely not”. We always explain why and help you find something that will work well.

The name Queen Piercing is a nod to Princess Beatrix and the royal details in our historic Utrecht building. To us, Beatrix will of course always be Queen in our hearts.
